I was thinking of building a construction vehicle for some time now, but these set were always rare and hard to get. But it turned out that an excavator is available - and in a local shop, so time has come to try something new. Excavator was planned to be a part of a simple diorama with lots of weathering effects. Construction vehicles seem quite easy for this and they are good for start and learning. Most of the mistakes can be later disguised with some mud and dirt. Excavator got a lot of paint chipping, dirt, oily leaks, scratches, mud and soil. Also some rust here and there, but not much - I wanted the machine to look like still in use, not abandoned. The diorama itself turned out to be easy to do. Just a simple piece of land with a hole in the ground. I managed to buy some gadgets of the same scale (transportation pallets, bottles, gas container) which combined with artificial soil and grass and some weathering gave quite interesting effect.
